REBECCA Biagio c1735-1808

Biagio Rebecca lived and worked in England, though of Italian descent. He became an A.R.A. in 1771 and specialised in the imitation of antique bas-relief.

Biagio collaborated with a number of interior designers, perhaps the most famous being, Robert Adam. It is during these collaborations  that one of Adam's greatest interiors was created at Harewood House and at Kedleston Hall where Biagio added the fine painted decoration to the plaster relief panels, ceilings and carved marble mantle-pieces.

He, was responsible for most of the decorative paintings at Heaton Hall, an 18th century neo-classical country house in Prestwich, Manchester.

Biagio's son, John Biagio Rebecca, became a architect and, in 1810 was commissioned by Elizabeth Bulwer-Lytton, to design the stucco and Gothic façade of Knebworth House, much of which we see standing today.
