Salley Abbey - Lancashire (NT)

Salley Abbey was a Cistercian Abbey founded in 1148. After the its dissolution in 1536 the monks were put back into the abbey during the Pilgrimage of Grace, and remained in possession until the collapse of that insurrection, when the abbot was executed.

Salley Abbey - the low walls show the plan of its domestic buildings.

The shortened nave of the church is evidence of the early poverty of the Abbey, and the low walls show the plan of its domestic buildings.
